Wow, what a first day! So I didn’t get a wink of sleep last night. I’m still not sure whether it was the jetlag or because I was nervous. Whatever it was though, it wasn’t good because I didn’t get any rest whatsoever. To top it all off, I couldn’t find my black dress shoes this morning, so eventually had to settle for my brown ones because I was running late already. I was supposed to be out of the house at 7:30 am so I could give myself plenty of time to get to work and not be late, but of course, I didn’t plan well enough ahead and the whole shoe fiasco set me back an extra 15 minutes, so I wound up being late. Wait though, here’s the doozy! So as I’m running out the door, I pause for a slight moment thinking I should bring some food to eat because I was really hungry, or at least bring some water because I was thirsty, but I decide against turning back. I hope on the N-Judah and I’m starting to feel lightheaded and sick to my stomach. We get to the UCSF stop and I rush out the door and proceed to dry heave–not fun with the whole N-Judah looking on. I finish up my business and am able to hop back on the muni because people were taking so long to board. I get back on because I think I’m feeling better, but alas, I have to get off on the next stop. I just couldn’t do it; I just wasn’t feeling good at all. I went to the corner coffee house and bought some OJ and a cookie to help me regain my energy. The OJ helped a lot and I was able to get myself on the next train bound for downtown. I got there about 20 minutes late, but they had just started, so I wasn’t too late. Everyone was really cool all day, but I barely had any time to breathe. I found out that one of my teammates was going to be leaving the firm on the first of the month, so I would have to take over all of her cases, not fun. I got my cubicle and what not though, and I’ve already got two cases under my belt. I had to stay after for about an hour to take care of some of my administrative tasks, but it was all good. I set up my voicemail and started sifting through my email, but there was too much left to do, so I just left it and figured I’d do it tomorrow. I’m still not all better yet, but man, what a rough way to start out your first day huh? On top of all this, the shoes I grabbed also hadn’t been broken in yet, so it wound up digging into my ankles–yes, pain. All in all, it was quite an eventful day, but I’m pooped out now and am about to pass out. I’ll just wake up early tomorrow morning to get my stuff together for work. I’m going to decorate my cubicle and make it feel more like home, haha. Feel free to send me things to post up to remind me of you! Alright, I’m exhausted so I’m going to crash for the evening, but I’ll give a better picture of my work tomorrow. Nyyyyyyyght!

Ugh, it’s 4:38 in the morning and I’m still awake. I don’t know whether it’s jetlag or the fact that I’m nervous about my first day at my new job tomorrow, or perhaps a combination of both; either way, I’m still up. This isn’t good. I have a full day ahead of me tomorrow and I just hope that I don’t fall asleep while they’re explaining things to me. Perhaps I’ll stop by and grab myself some Starbucks before heading in just to be safe…

Hmm, with this new job starting up, my schedule’s gotten a little busier than normal. Here’s what I still have to do, hopefully I’ll be able to get it all done before the end of this week:

    - go to Costco and get a new printer
    - round up and mail out tax documents to Sis
    - open up a savings account with HSBC (thanks to Noodle for the tip!)
    - pick up my last paychecks at BGF
    - FINISH UP MY FREAKIN’ DOCUMENTARY!
    - organize my room
    - start my training session at the gym (I have 5 to use up between now and the end of February, so I need to get crackin’ on it)

Hmm, everything seems doable, but it’s a little bit harder taking care of these errands now that I’ll be working 8-5 like most other corporate automatons, but maybe they’ll let me out early at some point this week, but we’ll see.

…argh, I need to try to get some shut eye…

I’ll post on my first day after I actually finish it–oooh, what a novel idea, haha. Ok, that was lame, but it’s almost 5 in the freakin’ morning, what do you expect?!

  • …a new beginning…

Wow, the Year of the Cock has passed and now we’re already into the Year of the Dog! Happy Chinese New Year everyone!

I’ve been meaning to write an entry for quite some time now, but I just never really found the time. I know, I keep starting all of my entries off by saying this because there’s always such a huge gap between them, but I really do try to be more consistent, it’s just that the end of the year and all of January was quite a hectic time for me. So here’s the skinny on what’s been going on. Warning, this is NOT a short entry…

So I’m no longer living with those dirty, rude, drug-addicted, and simply tragic pieces of trailer trash anymore. If you never got to meet them, consider yourself lucky, and if you were unfortunate to have ever crossed paths with them while visiting me, my sincerest apologies for all the crap they put you through–this especially applies to Chicken Wing and Shirley. Anyhow, I officially moved out on January 17th and have been at peace ever since then. The bitch tried to double dip and make me pay for the whole month’s rent even though she had immediately found a new roommate who moved in immediately after I moved out, but we finally settled it and I got my whole deposit back after threatening to sue her in small claims court. Ugh, I’m so glad to be rid of that utterly stressful and tragic part of my life. Noodle’s the new roomie now and we’re still not quite completely settled in yet, but we’re getting there. The important part is that I’m out of that crazy house and sharing my very own apartment again–something that I can actually call home. We still have to get a futon for the living room and a TV stand, but our kitchen and bathroom is pretty complete. My room still has to be organized a little more, but I’m almost there. Hopefully it’ll be done by this weekend, before I have to start my new job. Speaking of which, I got a new job!

I’d been mulling over the idea of getting a new job for quite some time now, but it didn’t really hit me until I actually got calls for interviews. I had looked at job postings before, but never really made a conscious effort to apply to any of them. The way I figured it, I knew that I’ll be applying to law/grad school in a year’s time, so why bother looking for a new job when I already had a safe and secure job? Blue and Gold Fleet offered me great benefits, a decent wage, and a fair amount of flexibility–during the off peak season this is, so it just seemed to work out; I’d be able to study for my LSAT’s and GREs without worrying about bringing work home, it was a cool and chill environment to work in, and again, the benefits were great. Needless to say, it was quite difficult to finally admit to myself that I needed to move on. The fact of the matter was that there was nowhere else to go at Blue and Gold. It wasn’t my career, and although everything else seemed to be accommodating, it just wasn’t what I wanted. I wanted to be challenged, I wanted to feel as though I’m really making a difference, I wanted something that was more career-oriented, I wanted my Berkeley degrees to mean something, even if it meant taking a pay-cut. Fortunately, the latter didn’t wind up being the case. Anyhow, to make a long story short, I’m now a legal assistant working for Berry Appelman and Leiden, a corporate immigration law firm. My first day will be this coming Monday. Man, what a trip, I’ll be turning in my tourism industry Blue and Gold uniform of 3 years in for the corporate suit and tie. I also won’t be driving into work anymore either as parking isn’t provided by the firm, but fortunately, the N Judah is just a block away from our new place. It’s about a half hour ride into downtown each way, so I figure I’ll finally get the chance to just read on my commute to work. I can’t wait to try public transportation, haha!

As for my love life, things are going wonderfully. After my break up with Chris, I was left with somewhat of a bitter aftertaste about the whole love and relationship thing. I wasn’t quite sure if I’d ever find it again, let alone want it if, indeed, I did find it, but I guess someone up there likes me because I was given another chance at love. In September, Paul came into my life and gave me the opportunity to get to know him better. I knew there was something different and special about him the moment I first met him and he snubbed me, haha. Apparently, we had heard of each other before, but never really got to meet each other until the STD party in late September. Whatever the reasons for our paths crossing, I’m entirely grateful for it. He is an incredibly selfless and beautiful person whom I am incredibly fortunate to call my boyfriend. Ever since the day I met him, I’ve been both sad and ecstatic–sad because I cherish every moment I get to spend with him and I don’t want it to end, and ecstatic because I know that with each new day, there’s a new adventure in store for both of us. From carpooling with him to work to just cuddling together at night, every moment, every touch, and every feeling is one that I wish I could capture so as to savour it all over again. On October 14th, my soul awoke again, and it has been thriving ever since. I still can’t believe that he’s real, but he’s awakened all of my senses and if this is a dream, please don’t wake me up; I’m addicted and, more importantly, I’m in love…

    Honeymoon in Hong Kong

Paul and I spent a magnificent week in Hong Kong for Chinese New Year. He had never been before, so I thought it would be a good opportunity for him to see the place that had given me so much.

Pre-departure pics – Chillin’ in the Gold Lounge

Day 1: We stayed in Tsim Sha Tsui at the Taiwan Hotel in Chunking Mansions and it was nice and quaint. It wasn’t a five star hotel or anything, far from it as a matter of fact, but it was cozy and the price was good. The first day was kind of rocky. It started off on a good note, but ended on kind of a sour note. We started out the day by visiting the Po Lin Monastery and the Big Buddha on Lantau Island. We had a traditional vegetarian meal and paid homage to the 100+ Buddhist and Taoist deities. It was after our trip though that things began to get ugly. When we tried to unlock the door to our hotel room, we were shocked to find that someone else was in our room. They had switched us into another room without telling us and we weren’t sure if our luggage and personal belongings were all there or not. We tried to get answers, but apparently some Chinese tour group was having issues with their reservations, so the manager made us wait until he could rectify their situation. He asked for two more minutes after having made us wait for about 15, and then the typical American came out of me. We started demanding he take us to our new room so we could check on things, but he continued to be dismissive. Eventually, he showed us to our new room, but we were already boiling, so we just wanted to leave and get a refund. He said he apologized already and couldn’t give us the refund, but we kept at it, and eventually, his wife came in and appeased us by telling us that she would take care of it in the morning. When morning came, we packed everything up and went to check out, but she said that she didn’t have the money yet, but that we could pick it up later on in the afternoon. We agreed to come back later to pick up the money and left to find an internet cafe so we could find new accommodations. Our efforts were fruitless though. It was the Chinese New Year break, and everyone and their mama was in town and occupying all the cheap hotels leaving only the $200+/per night hotels vacant. We quickly rushed back to the Taiwan Hotel and begged them to let us keep our reservations. The wife was incredibly sweet and understanding and she let us keep our reservations without rubbing it in our face. She apologized for having stressed us out and made sure that the remainder of our stay was a pleasant one.

The weather gods were good to us on this vacation

Day 2: Lamma Island was our next destination. We hiked around the island and finished off the day with a dinner of fresh seafood overlooking the bay.

    Haha, I love my fish!

    Mmm…shrimp!

And the winner of the Karate mussel-eating contest is…

Day 3: Hong Kong Disneyland. OMG, I know we were in Asia and all, but geez, this place was ridiculous! There were so many freakin’ Asian people there, I swore I saw people carrying rice cookers with them. Now don’t get me wrong, I love my people, and I love amusement parks, but I never want to be caught during their eclipse. These people were utterly rude, loud, and pushy. They just didn’t understand the concept of patience or what a line was. In the queues for the rides, people never really paid much attention to the fact that there was an orderly line that had formed. They just assumed that those guard railings were there for people to lean on, so they squeeze and pushed their way through any crevice available to get to the front. In the food court, they were just as obnoxious as they pushed forward every time a person was finished at the counter. I got so fed up with being pushed in the back that I started yelling back at all of them to just back off and stop pushing. I screamed it all in English, so I don’t think they understood what I said, but they got the point. Geez people, GET SOME PATIENCE PLEASE! Anyhow, so yeah, HK Disney: the lines were long, the people obnoxious, but the company–couldn’t be beat! :D

    On the way to Disneyland!

    Welcome to Hong Kong Disney!

    The Sharpshooter

I let him win, I swear!

There was a line queueing up for this photo spot, I swear!

    Haha, Paul: the balloon man!

    Exhausted from the craziness!

Day 4: Sai Kung. This is one of my favorite places in Hong Kong. It’s far removed from the hectic atmosphere that is Hong Kong city life, and is just so peaceful. We rented a saipan to take us out to one of the outlying islands for two hours and we just relaxed on the beach. Afterwards, we had fresh seafood again, this time for lunch.

    Blinded by the sun

    Yup, that’s fresh seafood alright!

Hmm, which one is gonna be our lunch???

Ngoh bei neih yat baak maahn la (I’ll give you $100 HK)

Wheee! Let’s go for a ride!

    Sunbathing

It’s the little things in life that make a world of difference

Paul: “OMG, he’s making me fat with all this eating!”

Day 5: Mongkok and Ladies Market. We didn’t get to do much shopping while we were there, but we did get to explore some of the touristy shopping areas. The main focus of our attention though still remained on the food, haha. Hui Lau Shan, I love you, haha.

Hmm, must have been a slow day in Mongkok

    Nope, it was just early

    Mongkok, I love you!

Day 6: Victoria’s Peak. Ok, the view was fantastic, but it soooo wasn’t worth the 45 minute wait to get up there, and the 1 hour wait to get back down! We were there for all of maybe 5 minutes and then rushed back down because it was so cold and because we needed to pick up our custom-made suits before the store closed. The whole custom made suit thing was an ordeal all by itself. It worked out in the end, and hopefully my new job will appreciate it.

    Atop the world

It was cold up there! Thanks for keeping me warm hon!

Day 7: Time to leave. We didn’t get to do much shopping, but we did get to spend a lot of time together exploring the hidden treasures of Hong Kong. Although our trip has come to an end, every day with you is paradise! Here’s to love, living, and many more Hong Kongs!

All packed and ready to go

    We’ve only just begun…

  • …in the blink of an eye…

    12.27.05

Geez, the year is almost over and I don’t even know where it all went. I think it’s because so much was happening that I really didn’t get much time to really take it all in, perhaps now would be a good time to reflect on it all, well, maybe just the important parts, haha…

I can honestly say that in my 23 years of life, I’ve never really lived until now. I started the year off in a completely different country, not to mention continent, and from there, life as I knew it, began–well, the next chapter of it at least. Not only was I finishing up my last semester of college, but in the process of doing so, I was able to see the world and meet world-class friends at that. From Asia, next came Europe and an experience in every country I visited. It was an amazing experience, but not one that I will ever do again anytime soon, haha. I finally graduated from Berkeley, was fortunate enough to have met Paul, finished up my stint at Cal Performances, started up at the Greenlining Institute, went back to Asia another couple of times, and here I am, at the end of the year, reflecting back on it all…

I left the States because I needed a change, tabula rasa I suppose. I was nearing the end of my college career and I needed to figure out what I wanted to do with my life next. Although I still haven’t quite figured out what I want to do with my life next, I do know that I am happy, and for now, that’s more than enough. It’s interesting, a couple of my friends asked me what I wanted for Christmas this year. I thought about it, and I just couldn’t think of anything; I guess this is when you know that life is good…

I spent Christmas day with my family at my aunt’s place in El Monte this year. It was a pretty relaxed gathering as usual. We didn’t really do much, but it was just nice hanging out with each other again. Afterwards, I headed over to Paul’s family gathering. It was completely different from my family’s, especially in size, haha. I got to meet almost all of his family including all his titas, titos, kuyas, and ates. They were all so warm and nice, it was a really cool how welcoming they were. Katrina’s mom even thought she remembered me from a past meeting up in SF, but Katrina quickly came to my rescue and corrected her mom, haha. After the party, all the cousins and I went to see Narnia. the movie was good and it was really cool getting to know a couple of them a little more. I got to talk to Anthony, Katrina, and Pia and learn a little more about them. Normally, I’m pretty bad with names, but I think I managed to remember all the names of all the cousins. How I did it, I don’t quite remember, but I guess all that matters is that I was able to do it, haha. Yeah, you can test me on it babe, haha. :D

I was having dinner with Herb, Ritchie, and Tommy tonight and we got to reminiscing about college again. It was interesting to see how far we had all come in the past several years. We’ve all grown so much, and yet, were still the same people we knew each other to be when we all first met. I wonder what we’ll be like when we’re all 30 or so, that’s not too far from now, only another 7 years…

  • …and there goes November…

Wow! I can’t believe November is almost done already. This year has really flown by and soon, we’ll be starting a whole new year all over again. Geez, I guess it’s true, time really does fly by when you’re having fun…

So Paul and I went to watch the sneak preview of RENT last night at the Kabuki Theater. I hadn’t ever seen RENT before, so I really didn’t know what to expect. I had planned on watching it the last time I was in NYC, but got sidetracked by Bombay Dreams instead, which I still don’t regret watching. Regardless, it turned out to be a fantastic movie, waaaaaaaaaay better than what Chicago, the movie, was. The audience was pretty cool too, albeit rowdy and annoying. We had to stand in line for about 2 hours before they would let us in, and of course we had to be “lucky” enough to stand next to this group of about 50 high school drama students, all ready to belt out every song in the movie–how pleasant! Other than that, it was a great movie and I would definitely recommend seeing it…

In sticking with movies, Paul and I also went to see the midnight showing of Harry Potter on opening night. It wasn’t as crowded as I had anticipated, but it was still pretty packed nonetheless. I was a little disappointed with this particular Potter movie, perhaps it was because of all the hype. Also, I think they tried to make this one more action packed than the previous ones, but in doing so compromised a little bit on the fluidity of the whole movie. Overall, it was a good movie though; I wish they had given the little Asian girl a larger part though! They could have such cute little Hapa kids together! haha

We had a CUHK-Berkeley reunion, minus Jenny, on Sunday. It was great seeing everyone again. I totally had a blast reminiscing about all the great times we had in HK and catching up with what everyone was doing now. Man, I really wish I was back in HK again. I miss Hong Kong! While I was in Taipei, I kept thinking about how much fun I had had in Hong Kong, and how much I wanted to live in Asia again. Ugh, avian flu or not, Asia still holds a special place in my heart. Speaking of which, I’ll be leaving for Singapore in a little more than a week’s time. Yes, I’m going back to Asia, but only to Singapore this time. I’ll be bringing my work with me though since I’m on a time crunch for my documentary. They want it done by the end of December, so in order to do that, I’ll have to bring some of the background research with me so I can write the script up while I’m in Asia. Hopefully I’ll be able to stay on task and get some work done, but yeah, no Christmas present for me this year, haha…

Oh, so while I’m on the topic of my documentary, let me just tell you that this whole documentary process is quite tedious and tiring. I’m responsible for everything–doing the background research, writing the script, all the interviews, all the filming, editing, and so forth. Ugh, I need a crew, or at least an assistant. Hmm, I think I might have bit off more than than I can chew. While it’s fun and all, this is an incredibly daunting project. Whatever, it’s for a good cause and I’m actually doing something meaningful with my life and skills. Yes, I’m trying to find the silver lining, hopefully this is it, haha…

Hmm, so I’ve realized that I’ve done a lot of traveling in my life thus far. Here are all the places I’ve been to already:

Anyhow, I’m always looking for new and exciting places to visit, any suggestions?

  • …home, sweet home…

    It’s 3am and I can’t sleep…

I’m back from Asia now, but still running on Asia time. I tried not to sleep on the plane so that I could deal with the jetlag a little better, but to no avail. I stayed awake for the first 4 hours watching Cinderella Man, Kung Fu Mahjong, and Valiant, but fell victim to the Sandman thereafter. It was a wonderful break from reality, but for the first time in a very long time, I was looking forward to coming back to reality. I dreamt of coming home, of the moment when the plane would touch down and the countdown to his return would begin; home is where my heart is…

So Asia was beautiful, as always. We first went to LA and spent half a day at Disneyland before beginning our adventures in Asia. I hadn’t been to Disneyland since I was about 9 or so, so it’s been quite a while and things had changed tremendously. We hit about 13 rides in that short period of time, and let me just say, I was pooped out. One of my favorite rides there was the Tower of Terror at California Adventure. Man, I screamed so much you’d have sworn I was a teeny-bopper at an ‘N Sync concert all over again, haha. :D

From Disneyland, we drove to LAX to catch our flight to Asia. About 14 hours later, we were back in the good old humidity of Thailand. The first stop was Bangkok. It was incredibly hot there, and the air conditioning wasn’t working that well in the tunnel that led us from the international gate to the domestic gate, but we trudged on. We were on our way to make our connecting flight to Phuket. At this point, let me just say how much I hate immigration in Bangkok. They have this stupid rule that you can’t make a connecting flight through Bangkok unless you have at least 2 hours to spare–so dumb, but unfortunately necessary considering how slow the immigration line was. We flew on Thai Air to Phuket; the plane was soooooo gay!! Haha, it seemed like everyone and their sugar daddy was going to Nation, haha. About an hour or so later, we were in Phuket. We stayed at the amazing Hilton Resort and Spa for 5 days. It was really relaxing and wasn’t too crowded. It’s amazing to see how quickly they’ve recovered from the tragedy, but I guess they had no other choice considering how dependent their economy is on tourism. While in Phuket, we went to 2 Nation events–a pool party and the actual Nation party, both of which weren’t all that. The pool party was ok, but I wasn’t impressed. There were definitely a lot of guys there though that looked as if they ate, slept, and breathed working out, but hey, to each his own. Nation, on the other hand, was um, interesting. Obviously the whole weekend was meant to be a celebration of pride, pills, and pulsating beats, but I could only enjoy the first. At the Nation party, I was surrounded by half naked men dancing to horrible house music (not that any house music is good) who were trying to take my shirt off so I could join the masses. Hmm, seeing as how my shirt was the only thing that was protecting me against their sweaty bodies, I thought it best to keep my shirt on.

The following night, we decided to explore the local gay scene. We went to a cabaret show, and it was, how do I put this gently? TRAGIC! Even alcohol couldn’t help their acts, so I fell asleep. Thankfully though, we ended Phuket on a wonderful note. John, Sharn, and I went on a day trip in which we explored/snorkeled at Phi Phi Island, James Bond Island, etc. The views were absolutely stunning and the clarity of the water was unbelievable. The corals and marine life still haven’t fully recovered from the tsunami, but it’s making a comeback and will be beautiful once again. Yes, Thailand, you are amazing!

Singapore was next. We only got to stop over for a night in Singapore, but it was great to be able to see my friends again. Chris, Roy, Al, and Jay joined John and myself for dinner at the Esplanade and drinks at Mox. It was a very relaxing evening that really served as the icing for this whole vacation. I can’t wait to go back to Singapore again!

From Singapore, we moved on to the last leg of our journey–Taipei. OMFG! I LOVE TAIPEI! I had never been there before, but it’s absolutely AMAZING! Not quite as great as Hong Kong mind you, but it was a fabulous example of how great Asian cities can be. The people there were so cool! I got to brush up on my Mandarin despite being mistaken for being Japanese most of the time, haha, must be the hair. I swear, it’s as if they’ve never seen someone with big hair before, so many people came by and asked if they could touch my hair, haha. Anyhow, the food was sooo cheap and good there, and I love the fact that their mass transit system (MRT) actually worked! We stayed with Walter at his Aunt’s place and he was a wonderful host, albeit a bit hyper some of the time, haha. A big thanks also goes out to Dennis for showing us around and taking us to Taipei 101. Taipei has now made it onto my list of places in Asia that I wouldn’t mind living and working in once I finish grad school along with Hong Kong and Singapore. So yes, I’m definitely going back! Oh, a funny thing that happened to me while there. So we were in Ximending doing some shopping and we go into this store. John wants to buy some clothes and is back in the dressing room trying the stuff on. While he’s doing his thing, one of the sales people starts talking to me. Here’s how the conversation went:

Sales guy: can I touch your hair?
    me: um, sure
Sales guy: Is that your bf?
me: nah, that’s just my friend
Sales guy: oh, do you like girl or boi?
    me: bois
Sales guy: ooooh, ok. you have a bf?
me: yup, here, let me show you his pic (hoping this guy would get the picture and stop hitting on me)
Sales guy: ooh, he is handsome with you. I give you my email
    me: um, ok
Sales guy: I give you friend discount too
me: haha, okie. well, I guess I’m good for something, haha

11 hours later, we’re back in the States and having dinner with Mark and his friend Eleanor in LA as we await our flight back to SF…

1am arrives and I’m finally back to my apartment and typing away my insomnia. Lil’ Poch is here with me, but it’s gonna be a cold couple of nights, but it’s good to be back home…

I’ll post up pics in a later entry…

  • …on hiatus…

I’m back in Asia! WAHOOO!! It’s been far too long since I’ve last been back, but I’m totally jazzed about being here again. I flew on Singapore Airlines this time, and let me just say that they are INCREDIBLE! I love the service and the seats! I had plenty of space, and their inflight entertainment was simply wonderful! I love on-demand entertainment! I slept most of the time though since it was such a long flight and I had had a full day of being at Disneyland earlier in the day, so I pretty much just passed right out after dinner. I dreamt of Poch, I miss him. Thank goodness I had Lil’ Poch to cuddle with…

So here’s my itinerary for the rest of my time here in Asia…

    Nov. 4   Singapore/Bangkok/Phuket
    Nov. 4-9   Phuket
    Nov. 9   Phuket/Bangkok/Singapore
    Nov. 10-13   Taipei
Nov. 14   back home to SF!

I’ve brought my camera and lots of memory cards, so I’ll be taking lots of pics while I’m here. I’ll try to update my journal throughout my trip, but no guarantees as I didn’t bring my laptop and am at the mercy of internet cafes. I’m in the business lounge right now, and thank goodness they have internet access, but it won’t be the case at all the lounges over here. They did have a shower here though. It felt so good to finally shower after such a long flight. I was able to do my hair and everything, haha! I love Red Carpet Clubs/VIP Lounges!

Well, I’m off to dive into a good new book that I bought to read while I’m over here. I was contemplating purchasing either the DaVinci Code or Amy Tan’s new novel Saving Fish From Drowning, and I went for the latter. I’d have chosen the DaVinci Code were it not for the fact that the edition they were selling didn’t have the pictures/drawings in it. I’m curious about Amy Tan’s new novel anyway. I’m not a fan or anything, but she does write in a very narrative fashion that gets the reader easily on board for cool, albeit commercialized and fantasized, literary sojourn. Eh, we’ll see how it goes…

    …and the adventures begin…

  • Ok, it’s actually 2:30 am, but whatever, on to the entry!

I’m still sick with a lingering cough that just will not go away and a strained voice that won’t get better anytime soon because I’m a freakin’ work-aholic and won’t take a day off to rest up like my body is telling me to. Hopefully it won’t be too busy at work tomorrow and I’ll be able to rest my voice up for the following day, when I know it’ll be busy, albeit repetitive…

So I couldn’t sleep tonight. I’m not sure why, but I think it’s because my body isn’t used to all this rest. Hence me being awake at 3am typing away when I really should be resting up for tomorrow. Maybe it’s also because I’m famished as well. I only had chicken soup with two glasses of tea and honey. My flatmates just came back, being the obnoxiously loud and rude people that they are, and woke me, then my tummy began to grumble without end so I reached for the closest thing available–a bag of Gardetto’s. I’m temporarily satiated, but am still awake. Shit, what am I going to do?! Ok, end of stream of consciousness…

So a couple of days ago, I watched the National Ballet of China’s performance of Raise The Red Lantern. It was absolutely breathtaking! Sorry I’m posting this review so late, but if you didn’t get to see it and it’s coming to a town near you, then GO WATCH IT! The costumes and set designs were amazing!! I was blown away by the choreography and just the overall performance. Damn, it’s exquisite pieces like that that totally make me proud to be Chinese, haha!

I watched Beauty Shop with John tonight. It was totally hilarious! I was a big fan of Barber Shops 1&2 before, and I’m a total fan of Beauty Shop. If you haven’t seen it yet, go rent it at your nearest Blockbuster! This movie isn’t intellectually stimulating or anything, but it is a fun movie about being your own person and not taking any shit. Plus I love Queen Latifah, so yeah, that’s more than reason enough to go watch it, haha. Dang, movies like this totally bring me back to my roots as a ghetto black woman, haha!

Argh, okie, it’s 3am and I don’t feel like being coherent. Perhaps I’ll head back to bed now, or maybe I’ll just surf the net a bit. I need to buy a facial steamer. I’ve been meaning to get one. It helps with clearing your sinuses, plus it’s good for your skin too. Do any of you have one? Do you like it? Damn, I’m so in a shopping mood, here’s some other things I want and am considering buying:

    - iPod Nano
    - Canon IXY (STILL!!! I’m thinking I’ll just wait until the next time I’m in Tokyo to just swing by and get it at Akihibara)

    …and I’m off…

  • …my body finally caught up with me…

Ugh, I’m sick! I knew it was bound to happen. Everyone at work was getting sick around me, and I just knew that someone’s nasty germs would finally penetrate my immune system and get me sick. So here I am, sitting in front of my computer on a Sunday afternoon blogging my life away as I pray for my cold to clear. I guess I’m kind of to blame for the weakening of my immune system too though. I’ve been working 7 days a week nonstop between my two jobs for gosh knows how long, so I guess it was just a matter of time before my body finally broke down. It’s nice to have the day off though. I finally get to rest and relax for the first time in a very long time. Once the new bid starts up in October, I should have just a little bit more breathing room, but then my two new jobs will kick into full swing at that point, so we’ll see what happens…

Speaking of the new jobs, so I got two new jobs. I’m still going to keep the current ones that I have at Blue & Gold and CalPerfs, but in addition to those, I’ll also be working for the Greenlining Institute and RevMovement as a documentary video intern and a business developer/marketing analyst respectively. Yeah, it’ll be 60-80 hour work weeks, but I like the work that I’m doing and the people that I’m working with, so I’m ok with it all for now. Hopefully I won’t experience much of a burnout until much later, haha, although I am anticipating a burnout at one point or another…

So while I’m excited about these new jobs, my family isn’t exactly thrilled with it all, especially my mom and my sister. They both are completely opposed to the idea of me even taking a year off from school to work full-time. They both think that I’ll get caught up in working and not want to go back to school whatsoever. I can understand why they’d jump to that conclusion, but that’s part of the reason why I decided to stay with my ticketing jobs, because they’re not my careers, so I won’t have any attachments to them and can have time to work on my applications for grad school/law school. I think that’s logical reasoning, no? My sister doesn’t seem to think so though. She continues to send me job postings for paralegal positions despite my insistence that I don’t want to be a paralegal–aka some lawyer’s bitch. She says I’m wasting my time not doing something more career oriented, that I should do something more related to law, especially business law. I don’t even know where she even got the idea that I wanted to do business law; I’ve never wanted to do business law. As a matter of fact, I hate it. Ugh, my family is just so damn irritating. They’ve never taken an interest in my life or the things I’ve been involved or interested in before, I don’t understand why they’re choosing to give their two cents now. They think they know what’s best for me, but they don’t even know me or what I want at all. Soooo freaking annoying!

So, on to my mom. I know she loves me, but dear god, she has one hell of a way of showing it! She calls me every day, and if she doesn’t hear from me in a couple of days, she goes nuts and starts leaving messages on my voicemail like, “Where are you?” “Why haven’t you called home yet?” etc. It’s so frustrating because after a long day of work, I really just don’t feel like being nagged by someone. I hate naggers and whiners. PERIOD. One day, she called me at 8:30 in the morning and it was my day off, so I was hoping to sleep in. I didn’t make it to the phone in time, so I just let it go to voicemail and went back to sleep. I called her back later that afternoon and she was pissed that I hadn’t called her back immediately. She pulled the, “I could have been on my deathbed and you didn’t call back” line, soooooo LOW! I was fed up at that point and just wanted to end the conversation at that point, so I went into my repetitive “Bye mom, bye, bye, bye, bye, bye, bye” mode until she finally hung up. She said she wouldn’t call again, and I asked her if she promised–bitchy and stupid move on my part, but I was just so damn frustrated with her. Ugh, I haven’t talked to either of them in a couple of days. Am I right? Should I continue to ignore them?

Well, related to this, I’m really fed up with my flatmates. I think I mentioned in a previous entry that they are the epitome of White trash, but in case I didn’t, THEY ARE! They’re so fuckin’ inconsiderate and I simply cannot wait to get the fuck out of here. I swear, I think they’re bound to each other because of the drugs because there’s no other reason that I can think of that could possibly keep these two together. They don’t love each other because they fight uglier and dirtier than Tyson vs. Holyfield. It sure as hell isn’t for the sex because I don’t see how either of them can offer anything remotely close to hot passionate sex. They don’t cook for each other or anything, and they’re both dirty as heck, so yes, it must be the drugs. Ugh, I guess misery loves company. Unfortunately for me, I’m stuck in this whole whirlwind and I’m just clawing to get out. Thank goodness for Ruth and Denise, my second home in Berkeley. I’m finding myself spending more time there than I had anticipated, mainly because I just don’t want to deal with these fuckers anymore…

…and now I’m physically sick on top of it all! ARRRRRGH!

  • …what next?

Wow, a lot has happened since my last post. I’ve wanted to just sit down and write down all my thoughts and opinions for some time now, but I just kept putting it off. I guess now is as good a time as any to update…

    SHIRLEY & CHRISTIE
My HK buddies, Shirley and Christie came to visit me for a week and it was awesome, minus my retarded flatmates and their totally rude and inconsiderate actions! Regardless, it was so great to finally see them again. We reminisced a lot about all the great times we had in Hong Kong. It seems like so long ago though. I miss HK! To all my HK pals, I thought it’d be nice to take a stroll down memory lane…

Jenny and me showing that we too can be flamingos, haha

    DREAMWORLD!!!

    The Bangkok Bunch!

One of the best birthdays I ever had! Thanks guys!

    Mmmm, sooooo good!

Awww, Malaysia! That hotel hall floor wasn’t that bad actually, haha!

Oh Singapore, how I miss you!

    GOOD TIMES!

    CHICAGO

This city is MASSIVE, HUUUUUUUUUGE I tell you! Thank goodness for the mass transit system that runs 24 hours there! Geez, it’s places like Chicago that make me feel even more disappointed with BART, ah well, what can ya do?! Anyhow, a BIG THANKS goes to my future roomie Noodle for taking us around and showing us the city, and to Chicken Wing’s friend, Chris, who housed us during our short, but sweet vacation there. I hadn’t been to Chicago before, so I was pretty impressed with everything that I saw there. The architecture was awesome, the food was fabulous, and the shopping was spectacular–yes, I love alliteration, haha. I especially loved going to the thrift stores there, I got a couple of cute vintage shirts that actually fit me! It was great! Chicagoans are a bit larger than average, and since I’m smaller than average, there were plenty of small sizes to choose from, haha. LOVED IT! What I didn’t love though, was how segregated and racist Chicago was. You would think that in a metropolitan city such as Chicago, the issue of race relations wouldn’t be as tense as it was, but no, ignorance is rampant everywhere in the world regardless of whether you live in a suburb or city. It really pissed me off to have to witness some of the atrocious acts of racism that weekend. I can only hope that time and more human interaction from all walks of life will temper their ignorance. Also, gay life kinda sucked there. We didn’t get to do any clubbing there, but we went to Boystown and checked everything out. It was clean and nice, but yeah, not many Asians, not many young people, in fact, not much of anything there, haha. All in all though, it was a very good and relaxing trip. What can be better than spending your vacation actually relaxing and having fun with friends?! Here are a couple of shots from my trip in Chicago. I didn’t take too many pictures because I kind of just wanted to experience the city without feeling like a tourist. I regret not taking more pictures now, but perhaps I can get it from Chicken Wing, haha.

    The Bean and the City!

The EL, as Chicagoans call it. They’re so weird with their “pop” and what not, haha.

Just FOBulous!! Noodle, Chicken Wing, Teresa, and me!

    DESTINY’S CHILD & KELLY CLARKSON

The concerts and crowds were complete polar opposites. The Destiny’s Child concert was absolutely INCREDIBLE! Amerie and Mario opened for the divas and totally got the crowd revved up for what proved to be an unforgettable performance, especially the Soldier performance! Aside from the fabulous music of Destiny’s Child and Mario, there was also another talent that stole my attention that night–Mr. Bryan Tanaka!!! OMFG! He’s so freakin’ hott! Ruth’s camera totally died on her and so she wasn’t able to get any photos of him, but I went ahead and did some research. For your viewing pleasure, here he is in the flesh!

As for Kelly Clarkson, the show was kind of tragic. She has a wonderful voice, but she was straining it so much at the beginning that by the middle of the show, her voice had died on her. Visualize this year’s VMA performance and you’ll understand what I mean. She had to go acoustic with her performance, in addition to taking her songs down an octave! OMG, soooo TRAGIC! Also, there were a lot of little teenie boppers that were there screaming their heads off. I think Ben’s right ear drum is busted because these two obnoxious little girls wouldn’t stop screaming and jumping up and down. Damn, I wonder how they’d act at a Justin Timberlake concert, haha!

    WORKING & LIFE

Work sucks, enough said! There’s a part of me that wants to start a career already since I’m all done with college now, but it’s so difficult because I know grad school’s just around the corner. Speaking of grad school, I really need to get started on my LSAT’s and my GRE’s. I’m soooo not looking forward to any of those tests. Ugh, and then there’s the whole application process too. Damn, I can’t wait until I get into grad school, wherever it may be. I just want to be settled in again…

Speaking of settled in, I’ll be moving again soon. I can’t stand my flatmates. They’re incredibly inconsiderate, rude, and are the epitome of White trash. They’re a straight couple that are in their early 30′s, White, and all they do is fuck or fight, and they do so at ungodly hours! It’s one thing to fight and argue, but they go beyond that. They start slamming doors, throwing each other into the walls, running up and down the stairs, throwing stuff at each other, etc. ALL AT 3 IN THE FREAKIN’ MORNING!!! WTF?! Ugh, they’re sooooo trashy! Thank God I’m on a month-to-month lease with them. I love the area and I love the price, but given the choice between my wallet and my sanity, I’d choose the latter. I’m just biding my time right now until Noodle graduates in December, then we’re gonna get a place together. HURRY UP NOODLE!!!

    Alrighty, time for laundry…
